Welcome to LA3 Toastmasters
Home

Welcome to the homepage of Los Angeles 3 Toastmasters Club, or LA3. We are the third oldest Toastmasters club, established on June 01, 1927. Since then we have had a history of excellent speakers and an emphasis on helpful feedback that has garnered us the nickname, The Great Evaluators. To this day, members from all over the district visit our club to practice speeches for contests. LA3 is also open to non-Toastmasters, often getting several new faces a meeting. So if you're interested in seeing what Toastmasters is all about, we welcome you.

Why Toastmasters?

Public speaking is a skill necessary in nearly every aspect of personal and professional life. Yet, many people are still terrified about speaking in front of a group. It doesn't have to be that way! Are you apprehensive about...

...delivering presentations at work?

...toasting the happy couple at a wedding?

...asking that attractive someone out on a date?

...job interviews?

...being put on-the-spot?

Most people are, that's why in 1924, Ralph C. Smedley founded Toastmasters International(TI). According to the Competent Communicator(CC) manual, the booklet containing the first ten speech assignments, the purpose of TI is to help “...men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening and thinking – vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding and contribute to the betterment of mankind.”

In the traditional educational setting, speech classes are limited by school terms, number of students, and quality of instructor. None of these things are issues for Toastmasters; each member can proceed at her own pace, there are opportunities to participate in every meeting, and there are no teachers. Instead, every TI meeting is a supportive learning experience where everyone aims towards the same target – to become better public speakers.

There are no requirements to visit most clubs, just show up. Though this is the website of LA3, we encourage you to visit other clubs to see which is the best fit for you. While LA3 is relatively informal, there are other clubs that strictly adhere to guidelines. Likewise, there are clubs for storytellers, magicians, engineers and practically anyone else meeting at all hours of the day and occasionally night.
